Many people like the idea of cartilage earrings but don’t like the piercing or healing process. Non-pierced cuffs are a great way to dress up your ear without ANY piercings!!  Here are some of our favorite NON pierced cuffs!

If you do have pierced ears and want to make a statement we recommend a cartilage cuff with a chain! These items do not have to be worn as a pair, people often wear one cartilage cuff and earring on one ear and completely different earrings in the other! We do not recommend sleeping in chain jewelry as it may snag or break. Healing a cartilage piercing can be a long painful process for some! This is a great alternative!

The number one reason customers return jewelry is due to incorrect sizing. It is incredibly important to size your jewelry before you buy it because the fact is no two people are pierced the same and once jewelry is opened from packaging it would be unsanitary to return or resell it. While there are “standard sizes” you can measure your jewelry prior to buying it. We have put together some information to help you size your piercing. One of the most important things to know is the gauge of your piercing. The gauge is the thickness of the stem or ring (the part that goes through the piercing) It’s a good idea to ask your piercer what gauge needle was used or will be used for your piercing. You can determine the gauge of your jewelry by printing out our Measuring Chart and laying your current piece of jewelry on the different widths. Keep in mind the larger the number is the smaller the gauge as shown below.

After determining the gauge of your piercing you will want to determine the length needed, this can be tricky! When measuring posts people often make the mistake of including the end balls, stones or disks. The end pieces are not included in the this measurement, you should be measuring just the post or the barbell. Below are examples of different types of jewelry and how to measure each type of barbell.

When wearing a hoop or circular you will have to determine the internal diameter. When measuring the internal diameter you measure the distance inside the hoop or circular, not to the outer part of the ring.

Typically these measurements are described using inches or millimeters as shown here.

Last but not least you will determine the end ball or stone size you will need. This is also incredibly important because not only does the ball or stone need to fit the post you choose but it needs to be large enough so it doesn’t go into your piercing! When determining the size of the end piece you should choose one that fits the gauge of your barbell and is proportionate to the length of your jewelry.  Below are some of the end ball and stone sizes.

These guidelines should help you determine the jewelry that is right for you. On our website you will find a printable body jewelry measurement chart. Never measure your jewelry on the computer screen as the scale will be wrong! Just print the Measuring Chart  out and lay your current jewelry on the chart. Use it to determine the gauge, length, diameter and end ball size. By sizing the jewelry before you buy it you will save yourself the frustration of returning jewelry that doesn’t fit! Customer Service or Customer Disservice?

               When a consumer is paying for a product they are also paying for Customer Service along with the product. Have you ever felt that a company simply fell short on basic customer service? You aren’t alone!

A recent Reuters.com article states “Americans are fed up with bad customer service, with 64 percent walking out of stores due to poor assistance and 67 percent hanging up on a call before their problems are even addressed, according to a new survey.”

               So where do business owners and customer service representatives go wrong? We believe there is a disconnect between the consumer and bigger businesses. With complicated automated telephone systems you are sometimes on hold for 15 minutes before even speaking to an actual person! Many times the telephone menu does not have a choice for the problem you have or an option to transfer to a representative.  As a busy society we don’t have time to be transferred from representative to representative who often give conflicting information. Another big frustration with customer service is unhelpful solutions. Phone calls are often ended with “I’m sorry that’s our policy” or “Unfortunately there is nothing I can do.”  Customer service representatives are given scripts to read from for each type of problem and have no authority to make decisions when faced with unusual problems that are not on their lists. My personal favorite response is “No, you cannot speak with a supervisor. They will just tell you the same thing I am telling you.”

The Nashua Telegraph recently covered complications associated with piercings. The article notes growing concern from physicians and researchers on the various problems that can occur from piercings:

A recent study published by the British Medical Journal reported that 28 percent of all people who got non-earlobe piercing experienced a complication – usually, swelling, residual bleeding, slow healing or infection – with half of the complications serious enough that the patient sought help from a medical professional.

“It is vital that anyone considering a piercing ensures that they go to a reputable piercer to reduce the risk of problems,” said Dr. Fortune Ncube, a researcher with Britain’s National Health Protection Agency, who led the study.
