Piercings becoming more acceptable

Palomar College’s award-winning, student-run newspaper The Telescope recently ran an article on the increasing acceptance of body piercings. Writer Spencer Meyer quizzed several campus body art aficionados about the stereotypes associated with piercings and tattoos — and asked if they sensed a growing acceptability of alternative piercing. While most students acknowledged the necessity of removing their piercings for certain situations, one student summed it up nicely:

“I think they’re becoming a lot more acceptable,” she said. “I see more and more people with piercings in business and everyday work settings. It’s just a different generation.”

What do you think, BodySparklers? Are piercings becoming more acceptable? Tell us in the comments!

I think they are, in a way. But it depends on who the manager is when you get down to the workplace. Really, it depends on who you get judging you for any position at all. Older, more experienced, business people are not as likely to take kindly to anything other than a single ear piercing in females (two piercings MAX). But younger ones, probably yes. In time, as the younger generation cycles up to those higher positions, I think we’ll see piercings being more accepted. But I don’t think you’ll ever see a septum piercing or an eyebrow piercing being cool for work.
